No. 52 Hamilton takes down No. 15 Mountain Pointe

Despite entering the game as the underdog, Hamilton did not let that scare them as they walked onto the field against 15th ranked Mountain Pointe, last year’s Division I Champions.  The Huskies, ranked 52nd in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings, stole the show after Pointe’s opening touchdown, winning the game 30-10.

With Hamilton’s special teams blocking punts, the Huskies offense went to work, converting 14 points following Mountain Pointe’s mishaps.  Before the Pride knew what was going on, Hamilton had a 13-point lead at 20-7.  Frustration mounted on Mountain Pointe, which only led to mistakes and penalties, all of which Hamilton capitalized on.

The second half was a completely different story.  No one got on the scoreboard, giving Hamilton the 20-point victory.

The Huskies defense held Mountain Pointe to just 157 total offensive yards.  Despite scoring 30 points, Hamilton’s offense also struggled to move the chains.  The Huskies total yards were reduced to 113 yards due to 140 passing yards but -27 coming on the ground.

Quarterback James Sosinski completed 12-of-22 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns.

Even though the scoreboard would suggest otherwise, the game was really a battle of the defenses.  Excellent special teams from Hamilton led to great field position, making life hard for Pointe.  Both teams were held under 200 total yards and scoreless in the second half.

This victory snaps Mountain Pointe’s 19-game win streak.  On top of that, it extends Hamilton’s home win streak to 64 games.

Look for Hamilton to move up the rankings after this victory.  They proved that even when the offense is met by a tough defense, the Huskies can find ways to get things going through their defense and special teams unit to help out the attack.

Hamilton’s schedule will not be getting an easier yet.  The Huskies face stark rivals Chandler, who are ranked 18th by DigitalSports, on October 3.  Kickoff is at 7:00pm.
